The aim of this class is to offer an introduction to the traditional problems of philosophy of science and while doing so also to supply students with the basic concepts of epistemology relevant for advanced topics and discussion.

-          The students should acquire a general picture of the emergence and development of modern scientific methods.

-          The students will be introduced to competing epistemic ideals in the formative period of modern science and their subsequent influence on the development of scientific methods and concepts.

-          The students should acquire the fundamental concepts and methods of discussing and evaluating epistemological problems and solutions relating to classical conceptions of scientific knowledge.
