Széchenyi University’s Doctoral Program in Management (SEEDSM),

Doctoral School of Regional Economics and Business Administration

Invites applications for the 2016 program start

SEEDSM is a unique, accredited English language PhD program in Business Administration in Hungary. The program, built on academic rigor and generally accepted theories and research methods of Management, emphasizes practical relevance and the importance of using multiple theoretical lenses in developing an analysis of the issue at hand. The goal of SEEDSM is to enable PhD candidates to become leaders of change in their communities both in academia and in practice by offering them, with the active participation of noted international scholars, a program that is up-to global standards.

In the first two years of education (before the Comprehensive Exam), PhD candidates, typically Friday afternoons and Saturdays, have to take a total of 19 four-credit courses (five courses/semester in the first three semesters and four courses in the fourth semester): seven core courses (Research Methods, Finance, Leadership, Operations Control, Entrepreneurship, Nonlinear Systems, Organizational Behavior) and 12 specialization courses. After the Comprehensive Exam, the emphasis will be shifted from acquiring the necessary theoretical foundation and research skills to pursuing individual research agendas and, working with chosen supervisors, to publish.

Currently, SEEDSM offers two specializations: 1. Management, 2. Transdisciplinarity.

The Management specialization focuses on fields of Business Administration with special attention given to Operations and Supply Chain Management.

The Transdiciplinarity specialization (for more information, please send an email to transdisciplinary@padabudapest.hu) aims at widening the perspectives of the participants by introducing them to burning issues of different disciplines with relevance to Management; economics, complex system theory, cultural anthropology, social system theory, epistemology and philosophy.

The ideal incoming cohort has Master’s Degree in a relevant field, appropriate level of work experience and excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Practitioners wishing to enhance their expertise are also encouraged to apply.

SEEDSM instructors, in addition to faculty members of the Doctoral School of Regional Economics and Business Administration, include internationally recognized scholars even some academic superstars and visiting professors; typically, two-three of them in any given semester. Classes will be held both in Győr and in Budapest.

Application requirements are available at the program’s webpage. Application deadline is noon (CET), August 20, 2016; entrance interviews will be conducted in the first week of September.

Tuition is €1,000 (one thousand) euros/semester/person in the first four semesters and €2,000 (two thousand) euros per semester in the next four semesters after the comprehensive exam at the end of the fourth semester. The tuition includes the costs of all teaching materials.

Accepted applicants will be considered for the Pallas Athene Domus Animae Foundation Scholarship; net HUF 1.5 million per semester throughout the duration of the program (information about this scholarship is available at scholarship@padabudapest.hu). The scholarship, based on the Scholarship Committee’s – consisting of SEEDSM and PADA representatives – recommendation, can be renewed after the successful completion of each semester.
